Quote of the Week

I recently read this quote and found it inspiring!

“All civilization comes through literature now, especially in our country.  A Greek got his civilization by talking and looking, and in some measure a Parisian may still do it.  But we, who live remote from history and monuments, we must read or we must barbarise.”

-William Dean Howells,

The Rise of Silas Lapham

Currently reading: The Power of Habit, by Charles Duhigg. My review and thoughts on it will be up soon!

What are you reading?  Do you like to have multiple books on the go, or are you a one-book-at-a-time reader?

  1. “we must read or we must barbarise.” I like that very much indeed. 🙂 I’m definitely a stack of books at a time girl. Unless it’s a ripping good read, and then I’ll read it from start to finish. 🙂

  2. Yup, I have multiple books on the go, ranging from non-fiction to varies levels of fiction and grab what I currently am feeling in the mood for reading. Unless I have a brain dead period where I get stuck on solely light fiction, then I put all my fiction away until I get into a good non-fiction again. 😉 Right now though, I think I have six books on the go – 3 non-fiction, and 3 fiction. 😛

    • Yes! It’s easy to get stuck on the fiction train for way too long! I find when I have non-fiction and fiction books, I find myself reaching for the fiction books first. So I often finish them all, and don’t get any more until I have finished my non-fiction. 🙂
